Chris Herndon was born and raised in the small mountain town of Fairplay, Colorado. She began her career in death investigation as a Park County deputy coroner 26 years ago. In 1985, she was appointed Park County Coroner and ran successfully for re-election 2 times. In 1991, she started working part time for the El Paso County Coroner's Office in Colorado Springs, and made the move permanent in 1992. Chris helped start the Colorado Coroner's Association in 1986 and has been a member of its board of directors ever since. She sets up the education seminars for the association, and teaches death investigation to coroners and law enforcement throughout the state. She has been a member of the Coroner Assist Team since its inception, helping in major situations such as the Columbine High School incident. A certified medicolegal death investigator in Colorado since 1990, Chris is one of only 18 in Colorado who are certified through the American Board of Medicolegal Death Investigators. Chris is married to Karl, a deputy sheriff for El Paso County (they met while investigating a clandestine grave site!), and they have 2 daughters.
